Winter Soul Medicine: Yoga Nidra to Release and Renew

  • HUB Seventeen - Lululemon 114 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10011 (map)

Through the practice of Yoga Nidra we energetically clear the subconscious and unconscious house of the body, and release tension, emotions, and memories we no longer need to carry. Timed to correspond with the Winter Solstice, and the end of Mercury Retrograde, in this event we invite our bodies to flow with these cosmic energies, and engage in a gentle letting go so we may expand with the light of the lengthening days, allowing new seeds to take root for the year to come.

Yoga Nidra, derived from an ancient Tantra practice, is a simple and efficient way to deeply relax while remaining conscious to reduce anxiety, stress, and insomnia. It is a kind of mediation performed lying down in savasana and is suitable for all ages and abilities. Our practice begins with a gentle, restorative yoga series to connect and open the body in preparation for Yoga Nidra. During the practice, we sink into the parasympathetic nervous system and enter the hypnogogic state, the state between being awake and being asleep. When we stay in this place for 20 minutes it is the equivalent of 4 hours of sleep. We seal the experience with a sankalpa (intention-setting) practice, to discover the message our heart and soul reveals so we may carry this into the new year.
