Trauma Sensitive Yoga Nidra: Deep Care for the Nervous System & Soul

  • Maha Rose 97 Green Street, #G3 Brooklyn, NY 11222 (map)

"Too much, too soon, too fast." Trauma biologically alters our brain chemistry, nervous system, and genome. Psychologically, it leaves an imprint that influences behavior, thoughts, and future responses to internal and external experience.

Fortunately we are socially waking up to the very real affect of trauma, C-PTSD and PTSD. We are learning more about trauma through advances in neuroscience and epigenetics research. Integrative techniques from somatic and transpersonal psychology are expanding our mental health repertoire. And culturally, movements like #metoo are giving voice to long-held, institutionally codified forms of systemic, intergenerational, compound trauma.

Yoga Nidra is an ancient Tantra Yoga meditation technique designed to deeply relax the body, and enter the hypnogogic state, the state between being awake and being asleep. In this state the body engages the parasympathetic nervous system to deeply relax, allowing emotional and energetic blocks from the subconscious and unconscious mind to arise and clear. The practice is performed lying down (or can be seated), and is suitable for all physical conditions.

This workshop is designed with love and respect for wherever you are in your process. In the workshop we will combine Yoga Nidra with trauma-informed breathwork and gentle movement, discussion, and journaling.
